Job Description:
Job Summary: Assist the Captain with the safe operation of the riverboat casino in a fashion that exceeds the highest standards within the passenger vessel industry. Consider guest and team member safety a prime responsibility to be safeguarded at all times.

Qualifications: Five years experience as licensed Mate or Captain demonstrating the ability to handle growing levels of responsibility or an equivalent degree from a Maritime Academy in combination with command experience. USCG license endorsed as Mate of Motor Vessels, Unlimited Tonnage and current IBA certification. Must have an excellent career record in the marine industry and thoroughly understand all pertinent regulations and laws under which the vessel operates. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing; ability to logically and independently plan, organize and complete work. Must possess initiative and well-developed interpersonal skills, as well as computer literacy in conjunction with administrative skills.

Essential Functions:
* Participate and recommend actions regarding interviewing, training and evaluation of Deck Crew candidates.
* Possess and utilize excellent “good seamanship” skills.
* Possess superior ship-handling skills.
* Manage and operate vessel within legal requirements of USCG, FCC, IGC and other pertinent regulatory agencies and to established high standards.
* Compile, review and maintain rough and official vessel logs.
* Compile, review and maintain cruise reports.
* Assist in compilation and maintenance of Army Corps of Engineers, USCG, FCC and other reports as required by Captain.
* Monitor safety issues on vessel and correct in consultation with Captain and assist in role as onboard risk manager.
* Assist Captain in the establishment of a safety “culture” and take corrective action as situations may require.
* Take a lead role in the training of Marine and Non-marine crew.
* Organize and participate in drills with Marine and Non-marine crew as directed by the Master.
* Assure the proper recordation of all drill activities.
* Schedule and perform Safety audits as mandated by company policy and as circumstances require.
* Ensure that the performance and behavior of Deck Department Team Members meets legal and professional requirements.
* Participate in the development of task prioritization and capital projects in consultation with Captain.
* Participate in Marine Department meetings as required by Captain or DMO.
* Recommend discipline for infractions of policy by Deck Department Team Members.

Qualifications:
Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands:
* Must be able to work independently.
* Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time (minimum of three-four hours).
* Must be fluent and literate in English.
* Must be able to maneuver throughout all areas of the casino; from floor to floor either by stairways (minimum of 20 steps) or escalator.
* Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
* Must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, twist, turn, push, pull, grasp objects and the manual dexterity to operate a computer and other necessary office equipment.
* Responds to visual and aural cues.
* Must be able to tolerate areas containing second hand smoke, dust, loud noises and bright lights.
* Must be able to work varied shifts, weekends and holidays as needed.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must qualify for, obtain, and maintain a gaming license from the Indiana Gaming Commission.
